Recruitment and Employment InformationThe Oshkosh Police Department is a progressive, proactive, full-service law enforcement agency which employees 99 Police Officers and a support staff of 36 full and part-time civilian employees. The Oshkosh Police Department has been an accredited agency since 1994 from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) and is regarded by many as one of the leading law enforcement agencies in the state of Wisconsin.

Police Officer Qualifications
The Oshkosh Police Department strives to hire the best Police Officers to serve our community. If you are interested in being a part of a progressive Law Enforcement Community, you will first need to meet the following application qualifications:
- A United States citizen
- At least twenty years of age
- No felony or domestic abuse convictions
- Possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license at the time of employment
- Possess any of the following educational requirements:
- A Bachelor's Degree in any field
- An Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science
- Sixty college credits which are specific to Criminal Justice/Police Science from an accredited four year college
Application and Testing Process
If you are interested in becoming a Police Officer for the City of Oshkosh, our selection process is as follows:
- Submit a written application to the Personnel Department
- Pass a written examination
- Participate in a Physical Agility Assessment
- Pass an Assessment Center
- Take a pre-employment Personality Profile Assessment
- Pass a background investigation
- Pass an oral interview
- Receive a Conditional Offer of Employment
- Pass a medical/physical examination
- Pass a psychological examination

COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICERA Community Service Officer is a part-time employee of the Oshkosh Police Department and performs a variety of tasks that will prepare the CSO for a career in law enforcement. Community Service Officers are Criminal Justice/Police Science students who work up to 24 hours per week during the academic school year and 40 hours per week during the summer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate
- United States citizen
- At least eighteen years of age
- Valid WI driver’s license
- Enrolled in a Police Science/Criminal Justice Curriculum
The successful candidate must pass an oral interview and a background investigation.
CSO pay is $8 per hour after 1 year. Uniforms, training, Workers Compensation, Liability Insurance, and valuable experience are provided by the City of Oshkosh.
SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD
A School Crossing Guard is a part-time employee of the Oshkosh Police Department. As a crossing guard,
you are a vital link to the safety of school children on a daily basis. Crossing guards need to be available one
hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate
- United States citizen
- At least eighteen years of age
- Valid driver's license
Successful candidates must pass an oral interview and background investigation.
School Crossing Guard pay is $12.31 per hour. The Oshkosh Police Department provides uniforms and training.
The Oshkosh Police Department employs 36 full and part-time civilian employees. As part of the support staff, civilian employees perform a wide variety of administrative tasks. They play an important role in the every day operation of the Department. These positions include Telecommunication Clerks, Word Processors, Court Liaison Clerks, Records Clerks, Administrative Assistants, Community Programs Coordinator, as well as a Computer Operator.
