Subject:    Reckless Driver

On July 9, 2025, at 2:09 PM, officers from the Oshkosh Police Department responded to a reckless driving complaint near HY 41 SB and Oshkosh Av. It was reported that a vehicle almost ran another vehicle off the road and was swerving. The reckless vehicle then exited to W 9th Av, possibly hitting a retaining wall, jumping the roundabout at the top of the off-ramp, and then driving on sidewalks. It was also identified that this vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Winnebago County a short time earlier. A citizen followed the vehicle to a parking lot near Witzel Av and S Koeller St where police located the vehicle in the nearby gas station parking lot.

An officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, however the vehicle continued through the parking lot, failing to stop. The officer was able to position their squad car in front of the vehicle, preventing it from entering onto Witzel Av in the 1800 block. The driver then refused verbal commands to turn the vehicle off and exit the vehicle. The driver eventually drove around the marked squad car, over the adjacent terrace and onto Witzel Av. Due to driving behavior conduct that presented an imminent and continuing threat to the public, a pursuit was initiated. Officers were able to successfully stop the vehicle and take the driver into custody within a few blocks of the initial stop attempt.

The suspect, identified as a 46-year-old man from Neenah, was arrested and charged with Felony eluding; Resisting/obstructing an officer; 2nd offense OWI; Operating after revocation of a driver’s license; Failure to install an ignition interlock device; and Open Intoxicants. He is currently held at the Winnebago County Jail.
