Subject:      Incident Involving Facsimile Firearm

OSHKOSH, WI (September 9th, 2025): The Oshkosh Police Department investigated an incident involving juveniles displaying a handgun near Oshkosh West High School.

On 09/05/2025 at approximately 11:40am, Officers from the Oshkosh Police Department were dispatched to a report of a male displaying what appeared to be a handgun at the Skate Park (1570 Taft Ave), which is located across the street from Oshkosh West High School. Oshkosh West High School was placed in a secure status while Officers investigated the incident.

Oshkosh Police Officers were able to quickly determine that it was not a real firearm.  A BB gun/facsimile firearm was recovered, and four juveniles were identified as the ones who displayed the BB gun/facsimile firearm. The juveniles are being referred on criminal charges.

Facsimile or replica handguns can be easily mistaken for real firearms by law enforcement and the general public due to their realistic appearance. This can quickly escalate situations and lead to potentially tragic outcomes during disturbances.  We strongly encourage parents to be aware of the risks associated with their children having facsimile weapons.

If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are encouraged to contact the Oshkosh Police Department at 920-236-5700. If you have information about this incident, but wish to remain anonymous, please contact the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at (920) 231-8477; or through the P3 App.
