Subject:      Crime Prevention Tips- Theft from Vehicles

OSHKOSH, WI (October 1, 2025): The Oshkosh Police Department wants to remind residents to remove all valuable items (especially firearms) from their vehicles and to make sure both vehicles and homes are securely locked. Recent thefts from vehicles remind us of the importance of proactive crime prevention measures to safeguard personal belongings and enhance safety in our community.

Since March 2025, we have had 36 theft from vehicles reported to us. Among these, five involved firearms being taken (in three of these incidents, the vehicles were unlocked).

Crime Prevention Tips:
    -    Remove all valuables from your vehicle. If you are unable to remove the items, make sure they are hidden and out of sight.
    -   If possible, park in well-lit areas and areas under video surveillance.
    -   Always close your vehicle’s windows and lock the doors- even when it is parked in your garage
    -   Secure all doors to your home- including garage doors and side doors
    -   Close and lock all windows on the first floor of your home
    -   Leave outside lights on for extra visibility during the night.

By being proactive with crime prevention, you help to reduce the risk of theft. Ensuring firearms are removed from vehicles and safely locked inside of homes can help keep our community safe. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it the Oshkosh Police Department at (920) 236-5700.
