OSHKOSH, WI (December 19, 2025):

On 12/12/2025, at approximately 3:25 PM, Officers investigated an accident involving a truck that had stopped at the intersection of Merritt Avenue and Bowen Street (facing eastbound) at a traffic light. The driver of the truck struck the pedestrian and then fled the scene at a high rate of speed northbound on Bowen Street. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Based upon the extensive investigation conducted by Detectives from the Oshkosh Police Department, the 31-year-old owner of the truck was taken into custody at a jobsite in Green Lake County. He was arrested for Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm (346.67) and Vehicle Owner’s Liability for failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

After the accident occurred, citizens on scene quickly rendered aid to the victim and immediately reported the accident to emergency personnel. A witness reported to police that this truck was driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed northbound on Bowen St. at New York Ave. They also provided a detailed description of the truck to the police.

Officers spoke with witnesses and nearby business owners about the accident. Upon reviewing video surveillance and using other investigative tools, Officers successfully identified the truck’s license plate, leading to the identification of the registered owner.

On 12/16/2025, Detectives made contact with the owner of the truck, who was identified as 31 year old male from Omro, WI.  An address was identified by Oshkosh Police as a possible location to check for the truck. Deputies from Adam’s County Sheriff’s Office located the truck at a property outside of Coloma, WI.  The truck was seized by Oshkosh detectives and remains in the custody of the Oshkosh Police Department.

During the investigation, detectives obtained more surveillance video of the truck traveling in Oshkosh. The video captured the suspect walking to his truck and getting into the driver’s seat before the accident. Surveillance video also captured the direction of travel of this truck leading up to the accident.

The Oshkosh Police Department would like to thank the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and Hobart/Lawrence Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
