Subject: Accident I41 South and Witzel Ave
OSHKOSH, WI (July 9, 2026):
On July 8, 2026 at approximately 11:33PM, Officers were dispatched to a wrong way driver driving northbound in the southbound lanes. While Officers were enroute to intercept the wrong way vehicle, Officers were advised by the reporting party that the vehicle had crashed. The vehicle collided with a semi-truck resulting in blocking all three southbound lanes.
A 60-year-old female from Reedsburg was identified as the wrong way driver and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment for minor injuries. The driver had her dog in the vehicle with her, unfortunately her dog perished in the crash. A local animal hospital took custody of the deceased dog.
The 53-year-old male driver of the semi-truck suffered no injuries from the crash.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 41 were shut down for several hours while crews attempted to remove both vehicles and conducted cleanup of the highway. As of 4:26 am, all lanes are back open for traffic.
Oshkosh Police Department was assisted by the Oshkosh Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.
