Subject:      Nuisance Party Prohibited Ordinance (17-38.2)

The City of Oshkosh created a new ordinance to help the Oshkosh Police Department address large, unsafe alcohol-related house parties before they escalate into serious incidents.

This ordinance provides officers with an additional tool to promptly address alcohol-related house parties before they escalate into more serious public-safety incidents. It would also allow the City to hold participants, tenants, occupants, or other persons in control of the premises accountable, as appropriate. The ordinance imposes no responsibility, duty, citation, or forfeiture upon a landlord or other premises owner solely by reason of ownership. The primary purpose of this ordinance is compliance, deterrence, and improved public safety.

Penalties:

Adult Violation (Ages 17 years old and Older): $263.50

Juvenile Violation (Ages 12-16 years old): $55.00

We will be providing further education to residents in neighborhoods that have typically experienced alcohol-related house parties. In coordination with community partners, we are also preparing for the upcoming unsanctioned Pub Crawl event to promote public safety and minimize neighborhood impacts.
