Subject: Weapon Complaint in the 2000 Block of Menominee Dr
OSHKOSH, WI (September 14th, 2026): At 4:14 PM, the Oshkosh Police Department responded to the 2000 block of Menominee Dr for what officers were able to later determine was a swatting incident. Swatting is the criminal act of making a hoax emergency call to 911. Swatting incidents are dangerous to Law Enforcement and the general public as Law Enforcement arrive treating the fake event as real until proven otherwise, putting innocent people in extreme danger. The hoax pulls Law Enforcement and Fire/EMS resources away and reduces our ability to respond to calls for service in our community.
During the initial call, the caller stated that he shot his girlfriend and had another person at gunpoint. The Oshkosh Police Department responded to this incident along with the assistance of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Police Department.
Officers were able to safely resolve this incident by making contact with the homeowner who advised that there should be no one inside the residence and that they were out of town. Officers cleared the residence where there were no signs of a homicide or weapons related incident.
The Oshkosh Police Department thanks the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Police Department for their assistance on this investigation.
The Oshkosh Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate this matter.
There is currently no danger to the public stemming from this incident.
We appreciate the public for their patience and understanding while Officers worked to safely resolve this situation. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents and will continue taking decisive and swift action against conduct that threatens public safety. The safety and security of our citizens remains our top priority.
