The Oshkosh Police Department is both a nationally and state accredited police agency. We are accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG).

Prior to the year 1853 Oshkosh was policed by a town constable. It was not until the spring of 1853 that Oshkosh was made a city by Charter, which was carried by a majority vote of the people.
